My grandfather “Big Bubs” was diagnosed with dementia when I was very little, so I never got to know the fun-loving side of him my dad grew up with. Music was integral to Big Bubs’ life, so I traveled with my family to visit him in an Illinois nursing home. We brought with us a playlist of music that he once loved, and as he listened, his reaction was both heartwarming and heartbreaking.
